Our movies

screenagers: growing up In the digital age

An award-winning film that probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world.

screenagers: Elementary school AGE edition

This new version of the original Screenagers movie addresses issues that elementary school aged kids, parents and educators are facing, i.e., smartwatches in class, unhooking from and monitoring video gaming, social media pressures, exposure too young and what research shows is a healthy amount of screen time.

Screenagers next chapter: Youth Mental health in the digital age

High Stress, anxiety and depression are experienced by millions of young people. We follow physician and filmmaker, Delaney Ruston, as she discovers solutions for improved adolescent well-being in the digital age.

Screenagers Under The Influence: Vaping drugs & Alcohol in the digital age

Join Screenagers filmmaker, Delaney Ruston as she picks up her camera once more to examine the impact of our digital age on teens decision making in relation to substances such as vaping, alcohol and drugs.

Funding Support for US schools

Amongst a range of financial measures to support the national recovery from Covid-19, both the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and the CARES act, include significant financial support for schools to mitigate against the negative impact on the education of our kids.

Our 1,000s of US School hosts regularly screen our movies as part of their wider Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) and mental health programs. Many have told us of their intention to use these available funds to cover the cost of future events and continue to support important SEL and mental health activities.

While we can't offer specific guidance on how to use the available funds, we would encourage prospective US School hosts to speak with their administration, district and state educators - and to learn more about the use of these funds here (ARP) and here (CARES)

screenagers events faq's

How much lead time do WE need between booking and hosting a screening?

We recommend a minimum of 3-4 weeks. This is to allow you enough time to publicize your event. Please let us know during the booking process if you need a sooner screening and our team will try to support your request.

For memberships - your access to The Screenagers Project will be made available on receipt of payment (or on a future start date you specify)

Can we organize multiple screening events or obtain multiple memberships for my school district ?

Yes and we offer reduced rates where you are purchasing multiple screening licenses or memberships.

how many times can we show the Movie(s) With a one-time license?

A Screenagers license is for a single community screening for an audience size suitable for your venue.

CAN WE OBTAIN A SINGLE MEMBERSHIP AND THEN 1) SHOW THE MOVIE AT A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT SCHOOLS/INSTITUTIONS OR 2) AS A SCHOOL, INVITE OTHER SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES TO OUR SCREENINGS?

No - Membership to The Screenagers Project is offered on a one membership per school basis. You would need to purchase a membership for each school.

Any School Screening events, should be for the students and parents/guardians of their one school and should take place at their school location, or other suitable venue under the school's control.

We are an organization that serves multiple schools / communities. what options exist for us?

Please get in touch with us so that we can understand your requirements in more detail. We have worked with many organizations such as coalitions, nonprofits and community action groups who work to serve a number of schools/communities.

In general our pricing is based on...
- One Time Licenses: One screening per license
- Membership: One school per membership
- with discounts available for purchasing multiple screening licenses/memberships

what kind of venue do I need to host a screening?

You only need a space large enough to fit your audience, along with the relevant screening equipment (i.e. large display, projector, cinema screen, etc.) Most hosts use a school gym or auditorium, church, community centre or library meeting space. Some make arrangements with a school theatre or local commercial film theatre.

Can I charge for tickets to my event?

Yes. You can set a ticket price at any amount you choose and of course you can offer free attendance to your event. Something in the region of $5-10 is common.

Who facilitates post film discussions at a screening event? How does this work for online events?

We highly recommend having a post film discussion with your audience immediately following the film. Most organisers choose a person from their own community to lead the discussion - we provide a moderator guide to support this. The guide contains facts from the film, and suggested discussion questions. Some hosts invite a panel of local experts to answer questions.

Additionally, Screenagers Filmmaker Delaney Ruston, MD. is available to book for a fee to lead the discussion and answer questions at your event.

Should parents bring children to see Screenagers? What ages are appropriate?

Our hope is that parents and children all see this film either together in order to spark healthy family discussions on the themes of the movies. We generally recommend our movies for the following grade levels:
- Screenagers: Middle School and up (Grade 6) - some elementary schools do show this at grades 4-5.
- Screenagers - Elementary School Age Edition: Elementary school (Grade K-5)
- Screenagers Next Chapter: Middle school and up (Grade 6)
- Screenagers Under The Influence: Middle school and up (Grade 6)

These are our recommendations, but we trust in you to know your audience best to make a decision on what is right for your school or community. Consider the film’s documentary style, length and content and remember, preview copies are available to prospective hosts if needed.

The children featured in this film are in middle school and high school, with elementary school age children featured in Screenagers - Elementary School Age Edition

I just want to screen this to a small group. Is an event suitable for me?
